Ridgeline Raven

Ridgeline Raven

Hunting District Finder

Ridgeline Raven is a free scouting tool that helps you decide where to hunt. It ranks every hunting district, hunt area and game management unit in a state for the animal you're after, using the state wildlife agency's own harvest reports, this year's season dates, habitat measured from USGS land-cover and elevation maps, and how much of each unit is public land.

It covers 7 states today, with more on the way: big game from mule deer and elk to sheep, goats, bears, lions and wolves, plus turkey, upland birds and waterfowl ranked county by county.

How it works

  1. Pick a state below and choose a species, month and weapon.
  2. Say what habitat and land access you want.
  3. Get the top units with harvest history, season dates, public land share and license notes.

Not sure what to hunt? Browse the species guide. Keep a private log of your harvests and gear in the trophy room and gear locker.

What the rankings use

  • Harvest history from each state wildlife agency's harvest reports, by district or hunt area. Mule deer and white-tailed deer are always ranked separately.
  • Season dates for the current season, matched to your month, part of the month and weapon.
  • Habitat measured from USGS land cover and elevation inside each district.
  • Public land from USGS PAD-US, plus state walk-in access programs where the state publishes them.

Use it as a starting point

Rankings are guidance based on past harvest and habitat, not a guarantee of success. Seasons, quotas, license rules and access change every year. Always confirm with the state wildlife agency before you hunt.
